Devil’s Claw Root This southern African plant contains a group of compounds known as iridoids, particularly harpagoside, which is thought to be responsible for its anti-inflammatory & analgesic effects. It has been used traditionally to improve arthritic conditions and painful joint disorders, such as tennis elbow.

Yucca Root containsa number of saponins which are steroid derivatives, which can be used as starting materials for the in vitro synthesis of cortisone. It has recently been used for treating arthritic conditions.

Pau d’Arco Bark A native tree to Brazil & Argentina, Pau d’Arco has traditionally been used as a treatment for rheumatism as well as an anti-cancer treatment. It contains lapachol, a naphthoquinone shown to possess anti-inflammatory, immunostimulatory, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-tumor properties.

Black Cohosh Root As well as treating gynecological ailments, Black Cohosh is often used to treat rheumatism due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It contains isoflavones, actein, & cimifugoside.

Sarsaparilla Root Sarsaparilla root contains a mixture of steroidal saponins derived from smilagenin and sarsapogenin, which can serve as starting materials for the in vitro production of steroidal drugs.

White Willow Bark Aspirin originated from willow bark, which contains phenolic glycosides, particularly salicin which is converted to salicylic acid in the intestines & liver. It is anti-inflammatory in action.

Stinging Nettle Leaves are rich in minerals including calcium & boron, which helps bones to retain calcium. Boron is beneficial to the endocrine system, which helps the body maintain healthy bones & joints.
