Apollo Herbs’ Bronchial Support contains a
blend of seven herbs that were combined together to create a respiratory
formula with expectorant, antiseptic, demulcent and immunostimulatory
properties, excellent for coughs, colds, flus, & bronchial infections.
Echinacea Root
Commonly known as the purple coneflower, this perennial Asteraceae
species known as narrow-leaved echinacea was traditionally used by the
plains Indians as a cure for rattlesnake bites. Today it is the most
popular immunostimulatory herb used in natural medicine. Echinacea’s
activity is attributed to its water-soluble high-molecular-weight
polysaccharides as well as its oil-soluble alkylamides (mainly
isobutylamides) as well as cichoric acid & flavonoids. It is effective
in preventing & treating the common cold, sore throat, laryngitis,
bronchial & urinary tract infections, herpes simplex, gingivitis,
infected, hard-to-heal wounds, eczema, psorrhiasis, etc. Echinacea is
known to impart an acrid, tingling sensation on the tongue of the user.
Clinically, it has been shown to stimulate phagocytosis, increase white
blood cells, spleen cells & T-helper cells. It has anti-bacterial and
anti-viral properties. Echinacea is contra-indicated for auto-immune
diseases.
Goldenseal Root
Known for its golden color & its very bitter taste, this extremely
over-harvested plant is now on the endangered list. Only cultivated
plants should be used, sparingly, for natural medicine. The active
constituents are isoquinoline alkaloids including hydrastine, berberine,
& canadine, which have astringent, antiseptic properties. Goldenseal is
useful for treating irritations of mucus membranes, gum diseases, eye
infections, dry, cracked skin conditions, fungal & yeast infections & is
known to have oxytocic effects. It should not be taken for extended
periods of time (more than ten days) as it can cause toxicity, as can
large doses. Goldenseal root does not have any effects on drug
testing whatsoever and should not be wasted in this way.
Elecampane Root A
closely related species to the sunflower, elecampane has a long history
of use as an antiseptic expectorant. It is rich in the starch, inulin,
which has diuretic properties, explaining its use in pleurisy to expel
fluids from the lungs. It also contains alantolactone, a sesquiterpenoid
with anti-fungal properties.
Pleurisy Root (Butterfly Weed) An
effective herb for respiratory infections where it aids expectoration
and reduces inflammation. It has traditionally been used to treat
bronchitis, influenza, and chest conditions. It also contains
anti-spasmodic and diaphoretic properties. Its constituents are
cardenolides and flavonoids.
Marshmallow Root is known for its
demulcent properties due to its content of muco-polysaccharides, often
referred to as mucilage. It has anti-tussive properties as well.
Marshmallow, like most demulcents, are very soothing to inflamed mucus
membrane linings of the respiratory tract, especially for irritating
coughs.
Thyme Leaves contain a high
content of volatile oil, which includes thymol, borneol, linalol, cymol,
and carvacrol. It also contains flavonoids & tannins. Thyme is a
powerful antiseptic & expectorant with anti-spasmodic properties. It is
used for respiratory infections, coughs, sore throats, laryngitis, &
tonsillitis.
Ginger Root Ginger
root is a common cold treatment. It contains several sesquiterpenes with
anti-viral properties, particularly to rhinoviruses. It also settles the
stomach, reduces fever, pain & suppresses coughs.
