Milk Thistle The seeds(actually achenes) contain a mixture of flavonolignans known as silymarin, which has been shown to have anti-hepatotoxic properties, protecting liver cells against many toxins and stimulating pro-tein synthesis, regenerating liver cell production. It is used to support inflammatory liver conditions & cirrhosis.

Schisandra consists of the dried ripe fruit of the Chinese magnolia. It contains lignans that have been shown to have anti-oxidant and liver-protecting effects, preventing the damage of lipid peroxidation produced by toxins.

Dandelion The roots & leaves are bitter tonics and have a strong diuretic action as well as high iron, potass-ium and inulin content. Dandelion has been called an alterative or "blood-cleansing" herb, used in many form-ulas for detoxification, liver dysfunction, stimulation of bile, & skin treatments for acne, eczema and psorrhiasis.

Bupleurum The roots of this umbelliferous herb have been used in China as a bitter tonic for the liver & circ-ulatory systems. It is also anti-viral & anti-hepatotoxic, but should not be taken in conjunction with interferon.

Burdock contains up to 50% inulin, and is eaten fresh as gobo in Japan. It has a reputation for treating skin ail-ments such as eczema, psorrhiasis, acne, & dermatitis. It has been used as supportive therapy for cancer & HIV.

Boldo is a tree native to Chile with leaves containing monoterpenoid essential oils, flavonol glycosides, boldine & other aporphinoid alkaloids, which increase the secretion of bile from the liver, aiding digestive functions.
