Jamaican Dogwood
is a powerful anodyne and sedative from the West Indies. It is a strong
remedy for migraines, insomnia, neuralgia, and gynecological pains. It
contains saponins, including piscidin, jamaicin, and icthyone. It also
contains flavonoids and resin alkaloid.
Feverfew
This chrysanthemum species is a primary herbal remedy for treating
migraine headaches. It contains sesquiterpenoid lactones, such as
parthenolide, as well as a volatile oil. It has been clinically shown to
inhibit serotonin release, platelet aggregation & inflammatory enzymes.
Lavender
is a highly aromatic herb which is a
gentle, strengthening tonic for the nervous system, easing headaches,
tension, anxiety, & depression. Its active constituents are in its
volatile oil.
White Willow Bark
Aspirin originated from willow bark, which contains phenolic glycosides,
particularly salicin which is converted to salicylic acid in the
intestines & liver. It is anti-inflammatory in action and has a long
history of use for treating headaches, inflammations and sore muscles.
St. John’s Wort
This herb treats depression,
anxiety, headaches, and neuralgia. It has nervine, anti-spasmodic,
anti-viral, & sedative actions. Its active ingredient is hypericin, a
red pigment.
Valerian
is known for its potent odor & its sedative, anti-spasmodic properties.
It contains iridoids called valepotriates, sesqiterpenoids & volatile
oil. It is used for headaches, tension, & insomnia.
Skullcap
This species of mint is a nervine tonic, anti-spasmodic & sedative used
to ease tension, anxiety, depression, hysteria & seizures. It contains
flavonoid glycosides & volatile oil.
Chamomile
is renowned for its relaxing, sedative,
anti-inflammatory, carminative, anti-spasmodic properties. It soothes
headaches. Its active constituent is chamazulene, a
