Black Walnut The blackened papery pericarps or hulls contain juglone, a naphthoquinone with antibacterial and fungicidal properties, with astringency as well. It is used for treating ringworm, athlete’s foot, etc.

Chaparral is an old southwestern Indian remedy for treating arthritis, cancer and skin lesions. It is known to possess anti-tumor properties due to the presence of nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA), a potent anti-oxidant, especially for fats and oils.
